PROBOXTV staged their wildly successful Wednesday night fights again this week and had another series of hotly contested bouts. The headliner saw Shurretta Metcalf win the IBF bantamweight title from Miyo Yoshida with a 10-round unanimous decision. Metcalf also beat Yoshida by decision last year before Yoshida had the title.
Lightweight Mykquan Williams was the star of the night as he showed a wide array of skills in stopping Lavisas Williams in eight rounds. Mykquan scored two knockdowns at the end of the first round and outboxed his foe consistently the rest of the way. Lavisas Williams battled valiantly throughout, but was outworked by his skillful opponent. A third knockdown in the eighth round ended the contest.
SHURRETTA METCALF UD10 over MIYO YOSHIDA
Shurretta Metcalf (14-4-1, 2 KOs) won the IBF bantamweight title from Miyo Yoshida (17-4, 0 KOs) via unanimous decision on Wednesday night in the main event of ProBox TV’s card. It was an evenly contested fight throughout with the scores coming in at 96-94, 97-93 and 99-91. The third card is ridiculous.
InTheCorner.net had it five rounds apiece.
Metcalf had a 7″ reach advantage and used it to her advantage over the first half of the fight while throwing high-volume punches. Yoshida got through the long arms of Metcalf repeatedly in the second half and landed the cleaner shots down the stretch.
This was a rematch from last November’s meeting where Metcalf also won via decision.
MYKQUAN WILLIAMS KO8 over LAVISAS WILLIAMS
In the co-main event for ProBox TV’s Wednesday night fights, super lightweight contender Mykquan Williams stopped Lavisas Williams in the eighth and final round with a punishing short right hand. Mykquan Williams (22-0-2, 11 KOs) dominated the fight, starting with two knockdowns at the end of round one.
Lavisas Williams (10-2-1, 3 KOs) fought bravely after the two violent knockdowns at the end of the first round but he was never able to generate enough offense from his southpaw stance to deter Mykquan Williams. Mykquan showed quick-burst explosiveness and threw heavy shots with both hands.
The referee waved off the fight as Lavisas Williams hit the canvas, badly hurt.
Mykquan Williams is ranked #10 by the WBA and #13 by the IBF.
KONRAD KACZMARKIEWICZ SD6 over KHAINELL WHEELER
Konrad Kaczmarkiewicz outpointed Khainell Wheeler in a six-round light heavyweight bout by split decision. Official scores were 59-55, 56-58 and 59-55 in favor of Kaczmarkiewicz (8-1-1, 3 KOs).
Wheeler (7-6, 6 KOs) was staggered in round two but came back strong as Kaczmarkiewicz emphasized his lateral movement over his punch output for a couple of rounds. But Kaczmarkiewicz landed the more meaningful blows throughout the fight and earned the win by getting in and then getting out against Wheeler, who has a bit of an awkward, herky-jerky style. Good, entertaining fight.
EDWARD VAZQUEZ TKO4 over KENNETH TAYLOR
Lightweight Edward Vazquez earned a TKO4 when Kenneth Taylor retired after four rounds. Vazquez (17-2, 4 KOs) applied pressure for all four rounds while Taylor (14-4-2, 6 KOs) tried to stick and move. But Taylor’s shots weren’t enough to keep Vazquez off of him.
Vazquez, who earned a minor belt with the win, showed disgust with his opponent’s decision to retire and had words with Taylor in the ring after the stoppage.
JERRY FORREST UD8 OVER EARL NEWMAN
A pair of heavyweights squared off in an 8-rounder to open ProBox TVs Wednesday night fight broadcast with Jerry Forrest earning a unanimous decision over Earl Newman. Official scores were 78-74, 79-73, 78-74. Forrest improved to 28-6-2 with 20 KOs while Newman lost his fourth straight, dropping to 10-4-1 with 7 KOs.
